The museum will contribute to making the Forest Finns known and recognized in Norwegian society by disseminating and by developing the Forest Finns' access to and involvement in their own culture.
The museum will have a central and proactive role in the work with Forest Finnish culture and history, and cooperate closely with organizations, interests and parties working for the Forest Finnish.
Norsk Skogfinsk Museum is a merger of four older cultural protection institutions that worked with Forest Finnish history and culture: Gruetunet Museum (established 1942), Finnetunet (established 1942), Austmarka Historielag (established 1977) and Åsnes Finnskog Historielag (established 1990).
Together, these four institutions founded the Norsk Skogfinsk Museum in December 2005. In the national budget for 2021 and 2022, a total of NOK was granted. NOK 106.6 million to erect a new joint museum building at Svullrya in grue municipality. Construction will start in 2023.
