Kongsvinger Fortress

Kongsvinger Fortress has a unique history. The fortress was erected in 1681 and has been of a great importance all the way up to 2009. Today you might experience the historic fortress through a museum, a restaurant, and a hotel. The majestic Kongsvinger fortress offers a fantastic panoramic view over the river Glomma. The fortress has never been conquered or seized yet been of an important strategic importance for the defence of Southern Norway.

Explore the history of Kongsvinger city!

The eldest part of Kongsvinger consists of huge officers' quarters and smaller housing for the soldiers fra the 17- and 1800's. The district grew up by Kongsvinger Fortress and were the childhood streets of the painter Erik Werenskiold who grew up here as a son of commander Fredrik Werenskiold in the end of the 1800's.

Negarden 1897

Negarden 1897 is beautifully situated in a large English garden in the middle of the village Flisa. Vinger Church "Klang under kuppelen" («Sound under the Dome»)

Kongsvinger's beautiful church from the 1600s is located at the foot of Øvrebyen, Kongsvinger's old town. With its characteristic onion dome, it is a favorite and beautiful photo motif. The church is currently used, among other things, for the popular concert series "Sound under the Dome", where both local and national artists perform.

Norwegian Prison Museum

The Norwegian Prison Museum is located in the laboratory building at Kongsvinger Fortress. Here you will find the largest collection from Norwegian prison history in the form of thousands of objects, pictures, prisoner works and historical documents and stories dating back to the 1700s.

The tower of Hornkjøl

North of Eidskog, towering up for the lake of Hornsjøen on the border with Kongsvinger municipality, lies the mountain of Hornkjøl. The height above sea level is 434 meters and highest in Eidskog. At the top is the tower of Hornkjøl, an 18.5 m high fire tower from 1942 with great views in all directions. The tower was extensively restored in 2019-2020.

A summer evening at Oppitun - Hans Børli's home summer 2023

Oppistun - Børli's literary universe.Oppistun is the poet Hans Børli's childhood home at Fjellskogen in Eidskog. Hans Børli has been translated into several languages and has received a number of literary awards.The place Børli was probably cleared in the first half of the 1700s. Around 1865 the square was divided in two, Nestun and Oppistun. All the farms at Nordre Fjellskogen are defunct. Oppistun Børli was vacated after the farmhouse burned down in 1969. Only the kitchen stairs remain. It called Hans Børli his "altar".

The farm pasture "Skaalbergsetera"

Skålbergsætra in Austvatn, Nord-Odal, was in traditional operation until 1960. After many years of decay and overgrowth, Anno Museum and Odalstunet have restored buildings and landscapes and budeia has re-entered the site after 50 years of absence.In summer, the farm is open every day from 12-5 pm. Feel free to bring your packed lunch and enjoy the peace .On Wednesdays, cheese making are demonstrated. The sale of self-produced sour cream every day while supplies last.
